2001-11-29 ~ 1:32 p.m. ~ Xmas gifts

Has anyone said before that writing and sewing is therapeutic? To me it is. Sometimes you feel like talking, but you have no one to talk to. Or sometimes you just want to pour out your thoughts and it doesn’t necessarily has to be someone physically there to read your thoughts, but after pouring them out, you feel better. Just like when you’re sewing, you have good thoughts for a friend which you want to give the gift to, and you keep thinking about your friend, have some really good thoughts for him/her, or simply think about some good times you have spent together. After a while, time just passes so quickly, and that’s gives you new perspective about the friendship. Many times, you think about your friend’s reaction when they receive your gift. Sometimes it is not as perfect as what you have concocted in your head, so it’s better not to focus on those thoughts, but rather just think of the nice things about the particular friend, and you feel really good after spending hours on it.

This is what so good about making xmas gifts for friends. It’s a whole month of reflection and these memories help us to differentiate each individual friend we have in our lives. Previous years, I actually make about 3 or 4. This year, I want to make more. Some friends may not be there for me everyday, as they may live hundred of miles away, but if I actually remembered the person and wanted to give him/her something, then that person must have made some difference in my life. I usually only make a few items for a few special friends. And I hope they know the meaning and significance of a hand-made gift. In our society, there are so many things we can buy with money, and why would any of us waste our time to make something with our hands? The difference is about what is made with the gift. It is made with love, with a lot of memories and every little thing is for your friend. I actually like to receive hand-made gifts myself, and I like to think that my friend actually think about each stitch which was sew with love and good thoughts…I think that’s the whole difference about hand-made gifts. And if you receive one from me, will you remember that it was done with a lot of love? I hope so and I hope you don’t just dump it into the trashbin.
