2001-12-15 ~ 10:03 a.m. ~ PIC: 4th Christmas Pillow Done!

Finally finished my 4th Christmas pillow. Actually it looks more like a millenium pillow. Well, anyway, it just looks different from the rest of them, because of the colours. I kind of liked it, because it seems to be never out of fashion, and can be displayed all year round.

Friends, I need opinions! Do you think this pillow would be suitable to be given to a guy friend? Pls let me know, because after sewing so many, well, not really many, but what I mean is after putting in so much work, I can't decide which one is suitable for which gender, I just don't want to send something which is too feminine to a guy friend. I think you know what I mean.

I used the same fabrics for the border and the backing. The metallic blue star took me hours to sew. It's because the thread is so fine and delicate, I had to sew a normal light blue thread before adding in the metallic, if not it will not have depth. When I was sewing, I said, "I'm never going to use metallic thread again!". But then after I've finished it, it's so pretty and sparkles at you, you can't help but thinking you'll still use metallic threads the next time because they are so pretty. Hahaha.. This is one of the most challenging ones I've made, not because of the metallic star, but rather the joining of the borders and the backing. You see, the fabric comes in a tone of dark blue slowly fading into a lighter tone. The challenge was firstly to choose, whether you want the colour tone to flow from left to right or top to bottom. I twisted and turn the piece around the fabric and finally decided to go for the top down effect which looks very cool and it will show on the borders as well. Next, was to decide where to cut and from where to start. I spilt the borders into 2, so that it will look equal on both sides and then had to find a backing where when you join them together, the colour will flow as one. Does it sound confusing to you? Are you lost? Ok, Anyway, I spent some time really thinking about how I am going to do it before I cut it because I don't want to waste the fabric and I'm lucky enough to say that when I join everything up, it matches so nicely...:)

This is how the back of the pillow looks like.
