2003-03-29 ~ 10:02 p.m. ~ Go away grumpy people and virus!

It has been a tiring day. I woke up at 5am today because I had a breakfast talk that starts at 8 and I had to go to work by 7 plus. Yesterday, I emailed my manager and asked if I could be dismissed earlier today since I was going to come in work early. She said OK. I'm glad I did that because after the talk, I don't really have any more energy.

Everything was fine except the breakfast that came late. It was a mis-communication between the estate and the security guards. Breakfast was supposed to be served before the talk. The thing is, this is a FREE talk, and no one needs to pay anything. I wonder why the public are so unappreciative and still complain and rant when things are free. So the breakfast was late, but what's the big deal? Since it's free, shouldn't people be a little more kinder and be grateful? From the way I look at it, some people were more interested in the FOOD than the talk. It is such a disgrace. There was this middle age lady who came and gave me this "You owe me money" look and demanded for breakfast. I told her it was late, could you please wait for a while? Such a grumpy old lady. I heard a few other comments from other people. I didn't bother because I wasn't going to let my mood spoilt over these people.

One person made my day. This lady from the KK hospital who came to me and said she was thankful for the opportunity to come. We need more people like her around to let us know that our effort did not go unnoticed.

Yesterday, I catched up with a rare friend. The guy who has pics of my hands and feet. I'm so happy to know R was doing good and not involved in the war as of now. He said not yet, I hope it's not at all. I've not chatted with him for a few months now, and nothing has changed. I'm just so glad and happy to know that he's around. No awkwardness, and we're still joking and poking fun at each other. When you have friends in the military, that's pretty much what you're constantly thinking and hoping, that he's all right.

On a seperate note, I frankly don't feel very safe right now. I am constantly worried if people I speak to at work has some form of contact with infected people. Sometimes you really don't know. I can keep safe, but when you have a few complacent citizens who don't heed advice and still take risks, you really can't help it. I can only be responsible on my part, avoiding crowded places, not wandering in the streets after work that much. I basically go home after work, it just makes me feel that no where is a safe place. I am angry that there are some very irresponsible parents who still take risks and bring their kids out to the streets, shopping. Those interviewed by reporters (on TV) said they were bored, and don't think there was going to be a lot of people on the streets. So if everyone thought the same as them, everyone would be flocking to down town. I feel if these people do not have any responsibility towards themsevles and other citizens, they don't deserve any sympathy if something happens. Maybe I'm harsh, but I'm fuming. Also, what kind of example are you setting to your kids? That warnings could be waved off and think that this issue isn't serious enough for their concern? It is not about being a law-abiding citizen, but more of letting children know of the seriouness of this virus and remind them that this period is crucial. I'm sure if they make an effort, they can still find activities to do at home. The ministry is trying their best to track down those who has in contact with a few people who brought in the virus and hopefully they can curb the virus from spreading by putting them on quarantine. We just don't know how large a chain cycle these people has come in contact with.

I emailed my Scientist friend and asked him why can't the doctors draw blood samples from people who has recovered from the virus and see how their bodies produce some kind of anti-botics to counter-attack the virus? Maybe from there, they could find some cure to stop this bloody virus. This question has been on my mind for a long time and I'm waiting for an answer from my friend!!
