2003-04-10 ~ 2:02 p.m. ~ Convocation No More

Yesterday evening, I went to the photography studio near my place and made a booking to have my convocation photos taken. For a small picture (framed) and a couple more shots, it costs S$98. Pretty steep. I took the cheapest package which only allowed for an individual shot. I went home, told my mother and she wanted to take 1 with me. I told her the shop says it will costs $200 plus to take a 2-3 person shot, and my mom says since she knows the person, she’ll go with me on the day and negotiate with the owner. I quite like the small frame one, because it is small, cute and looks precious. I never quite like big things, and I have no room at home to hang a huge picture like that. The date is fixed at next Wednesday.

Earlier on yesterday afternoon, I called the bridal salon which has all our uniforms (they rent and sell graduation gowns as well) to ask if I could book a date to have a fitting. The lady wasn’t very courteous, and told me I had to fax her the form before they would contact me. So I faxed the form over. After a couple of hours later, a lady called back and told me I’m put on a weekday afternoon slot. I told her I can’t make it because I’m working. She kept telling me that the rest of the slots are filled and asked when is the earliest I could reach. I said 6:30pm. She told me there are no slots and I wanted to tell her, “I don’t care, I’ll come after work.” But it reminds me that I’d just be another nasty customer. After all that unpleasant ordeal of fixing a date and time, she asked if I wanted to take my photos there on the day of fitting. What do you think? I told her No, I just wanted the gown. I am given a 8:30pm slot on Tuesday, but guess what, I don’t want to end up reaching there when the shop is about to close, so I plan to go straight after work. I don’t mind waiting,

Guess what…bad news…I just checked my email. The convocation will be postponed to October 2003, due to the SARs outbreak and many people were concerned. In any case, I will still write to the school to request for my certificate to be mailed to my home address. I’ll probably attend the graduation in October. We’ll see. Sigh…now I am not sure if the studio will do a refund for me.
