I am back from my surgery. It is too early to tell if it was successful, but I guess you can say so! I can read and see things from a distance, just that I do not have perfect vision as yet. My vision is a little hazy, with drop shadows around things that I see, and my vision gets worse at night, star bursts and basically every light seems like a star bursting to me, so I have to be careful about coming home late at night from work (I hope not) because I won’t be able to see very well. The doctor said it is big improvement for me since in my pre op days, I can’t even see the big reading chart. Just the day after the op, I can see the big letters and up to chart 4 which comprises about 16 small letters. I told her I do not have perfect vision and she says it is normal, have to give it some time to get better. There might be a possibility I need to go for another lasik treatment if I do not get perfect vision in 3 mths time, but we’ll see.I had more checkups than usual because I have slightly more problems than others. Firstly my eye muscle is very strong and reacts to light very quickly. So they had to put a lot of eye drops to relax the eye muscle. I got headache from that. Secondly I had large pupils. Normal people had maybe 5mm, and I had 7mm. When they dilate my pupils, my myopic and astigmatism in my right eye dropped to more than 75 or 100 at a time, so the doctor is not too happy and said she cannot laser the usual reading as I might be less short-sighted than I am. So in this case, she has to take the 2nd reading which is lesser. I have a cornea inflammation in my right eye, so I have to go into Johor Bahru for my checkup on Tuesday. I will be taking another day leave then. In all I won’t return to work till Wednesday and god, I have a work arrangement that requires me to stay till 9pm, but I will tell my boss that my night vision sucks and see if she is understanding to take me off from it. If not, this is one organization I will not stay for long, what do you think? It seems it is normal for people who has high degree of myopia and astigmatism to have inflammation as the laser time was longer and the eye might not be able to adjust as quickly. I hope the condition stabilizes and my vision gets clearer. My laser time for each eye took about 43 to 47 seconds. I did not do much on my trip except eating, napping and sleeping. Well sleeping as another matter as I shared a room with my auntie and she snores very loudly. I do not really get a good night sleep every night and wake up very early like 7am every day. I get in a lot of naps to help during mid morning and afternoons before and after my check ups and surgery. I took a sleeping pill on the night I had my surgery done as the snores were too hard to bear and though I am tired, I was not able to fall asleep. The pill helped because I think I knocked out for at least 3-4 hrs without hearing anything, and by the time I woke, it was about 6am. Last night when I came home, I had the best sleep since the few days, I slept from 12am to 9:30am!

It was good I had a very good doctor, and she was extremely reassuring. I do not know if we can get the same kind of doctor over here as what I hear from another colleague who does her surgery locally, the male doctor didn’t seem to pre-empt what she would be experiencing and then she did experience a sudden case of total darkness which is true, but what the doctor did not do was to pre-empt her about this, so she told the doctor she could not see anything, then the doctor told her it is normal. I do not think it is the right way to do things like this. My doctor talked to me throughout the surgery and everything before she does, she would tell me what she would do and what I would see and feel, and so it helped to calm me down. She tells me not to worry and is monitoring me. She holds me chin while the laser is being done so my head won't move and also tells me what I will see, like blurry red light, or green light. She also tells me how the laser sound is like and when she is going to put water in my eye to wash it. That’s why I guess she had many referrals. I think I was upset on the few 2 days after surgery as so many people told me they regained clear vision within few hours, but it is not in my case. That night after surgery, it was still hazy, not very clear. The morning I woke up, it improved slightly but still not very clear. So I was very upset and was wondering if the doctor should have laser more than she thought it was needed. But I guess I have to give it some time for the eyes to heal and to slowly give it time to improve. I will stop here and take some rest.
