2003-11-03 ~ 3:20 p.m. ~ My friend, Greg
I had a meaningful weekend. Greg called me on Friday afternoon from Bangkok asking if I was free during weekend. I said yes, and that I wasn’t working. So he booked flights to come to visit. He reached on Saturday afternoon and called me. It was about evening then. I told him I had to go to my grandma’s house for birthday celebration and asked if he would like to join me. He said Ok, and so I brought him to my gramps. We were having chinese buffet and some roasted suckling pig. Greg gamely tried the delicacy and my relatives as fondly called the dish as chinese hamburger. You put a slice of the roasted meat into a chinese bun (with opening in them) and eat them. It was comforting to know Greg was enjoying the food as well as conversations with my family. After dinner, my mom, uncle, brother and I were at the table having long conversation with Greg. It was really good. After that, I brought him to Boat Quay for a walk. I also showed him that Esplanade. I remembered Greg saying there are trees everywhere. He was amazed by how structured the landscape was, how every tree was planted neatly. He also asked me what is the reason for people visiting Singapore. I said food, culture and probably trees and flowers. We weren’t exactly known for special landmarks, or sports. Yesterday, I joined Greg for breakfast at his hotel as he had 2 coupons. After that, we went to search for a digital language translator. We went to a few malls and finally found it. There were also some hiccups on the way as it was raining in mid afternoon, so we hang around at a mall and had some pizza. We also went up to the highest floor of Westin and looked at the sky scape. It was raining though, and so we couldn’t see very far. Greg is a very thrifty person, he really calculates his buys, and has a control over his spending. In the evening, we went to have some sushi for dinner and we walked from City Hall back to Orchard Road. We said our good byes and hugged, before I left home in a cab at around 10:30pm. I am a little sad to send another friend off again. It was a very short time spent but I am happy we know each other’s life quite a bit. I hope to see him again, and I think he will come back again !! I’m quite sure as Greg goes to Bangkok for his buying trip at least twice a year. I am very tired, but feel really happy and fulfilled.
